Has anyone read Obama Nation by Jerome Corsi? I started reading it last night. The first chapter is complete BS! Corsi tries to get inside the mind of Barack Obama. He tries to tell the reader basically how he feels that Obama should have written Dreams from My Father. That is absurd. Obama did a wonderful job on that book. Corsi's concern is that Obama did not detail enough about his father's addiction to alcohol and women. I thought Obama did just that in Dreams from My Father. He clearly shows that his father was an alcoholic and a womanizer. Corsi also makes the claim that Obama tries to make his father out to be a victim due to his race. However, Obama clearly writes that his father had many great attributes, but he also had fatal flaws. The flaws that Obama talks about are the issues Corsi claims Obama did not spend enough time on. My concern with this book, Obama Nation, is with the half-truths told by Jerome Corsi. He claims that Obama told half-truths in Dreams from My Father. However, this is Obama's life. It was written when he was 34 years old. He had zero motive politically at the time. He told his own story how he saw fit. I am concerned because those who are against Obama are only going to see this one side, that of Corsi. His sources are contradictory at times. He did not interview Obama himself. How can he tell Obama how he should have written his life story? Every aspect that Corsi claims was not covered in great detail was in fact covered in great detail. Those who have not read Dreams from My Father, but who do choose to read Obama Nation, will get a false representation of Obama and his father. We need to get the word out and help educate people on Obama. I strongly suggest that everyone read The Audacity of Hope and Dreams from My Father.
There was one part of this first chapter I need to follow up on. It deals with JFK and the Selma marches in 1965. Supposedly, Obama claims that JFK helped bring his father to the US to study in Hawaii. However, JFK was not in office at that time. Also, Obama said that Selma got him born. Since Obama was born in 1961 and Selma was in 1965, then that is not possible. He probably wanted to add a personal touch to his speech at Selma. After all, it can be interpreted in more ways than one. Here is a link about the Selma issue. The JFK issue is a little more cloudy for me. JFK did help fund a second airlift of Africans to the US for studying when he was in office, but Obama's father was on the first airlift prior to JFK's election. I will look into these issues. If you know anything, then please post!

I'm not sure that even commenting on your thoughts is appropriate being that it gives even some credit to your, dare I say, absurd observances. You can trace Obama's political ambition back 20+ years to his days as a "community organizer" and joining a church for purely political motives. (that's being optimistic, what if he joined Trinity because he believed the Afro-centrist Rhetoric being taught there?) Also, your last paragraph is a clear indication that even though the logical side of your brain realizes he is a liar and political opportunist, your nonsensical emotional side won't let you understand it consciously. Besides thinking in terms of how something makes you feel, lets discuss what principles and issues are important to you and WHY. Then research what policies, regardless of party or platform, best suit the advancement of those ideals. I look forward to a response. You can find me a brutus2.blogspot.com.

My observances are absurd? Have you read Obama Nation? The only absurdity is Jerome Corsi's arrogance concerning how Obama should have written Dreams from My Father. That is absurd! And I like how you cherry picked my comment. You didn't comment on Corsi telling his reader how Obama should have written his life story! Have you read Dreams from My Father? Where is the evidence that Obama joined Trinity Church for political motives? He was not a religious man at the time he was a community organizer. Also, he did not have political motives as a community organizer. He worked with politicians, but Obama was not a politician. Nor was he pursuing political office. He went on to study law, and his plans were to help the communities of the south side of Chicago. He didn't make any mention of running for political office.
My last paragraph is not a clear indication that I "realize he is a liar and political opportunist." Also, I was not writing with emotion! I simply stated that I need to look into the JFK and Selma issues! That is all. There are logical explanations. Perhaps Obama was pandering to the people of Selma during that speech. I want to tackle the issues logically, not emotionally. For you to say "your nonsensical emotional side won't let you understand it consciously," makes me out to believe that you are trying to psychoanalyze myself like Jerome Corsi attempts to psychoanalyze Obama! The truth is that Corsi even acknowledges contradictions, and he is making assumptions through much of the chapter. If Corsi wanted to write a chapter that deals with the life of Obama, then he should have talked to Obama himself.
He also said that Obama never mentioned his wife visiting Kenya with him. However, that is written in the epilogue! I wouldn't know if the original edition left this out, but it is in the new edition. Which edition are people going to read? The new one! Corsi is a deceiver! When someone deceives once, it begs the reader to ask how many more times will the author attempt to deceive the reader.
So, I just finished chapter 2 of Obama Nation. This book is an abomination! Jerome Corsi has shown contradictions. He has been misleading. He has given assumptions. He is arrogant because he is basically trying to rewrite Dreams from My Father as if he were Barack Obama! The best source for Obama's life and search for his identity is from Obama himself. Yes, maybe Obama was not correct on every aspect of his life in this book. But he was 34 and trying to write an autobiography. When I'm 34 I know that I won't be able to say exactly what happened when I was a child. Does that make me a liar? No. That just means my mind is cloudy. It is largely a psychological autobiography. That is the only credit I will give Corsi up to this point. After all, Obama is in search of his identity. Since it is a psychological autobiography, does it really matter if some of the events in his book have half-truths? Like I said before, he had no political motive in writing this book. Well that is unless you are like Corsi who said that Obama as a child commented that he wanted to be President. So, did he live his life with some sort of agenda up to this point in his life when he wrote Dreams from My Father. That sounds quite absurd!
